After looking over the choices on the signpost, you decide to head into the Eastern Forest. You start down the path and soon find yourself in a dense forest. The air is humid and heavy with the scent of evergreen and freshly fallen rain. The scent coming up from the mossy ground reminds you of gardens and fertile land. Various birds call from tree to tree. You see flashes of motion in the branches, but you aren't able to isolate anything. Their chirping sounds genial, however, and you move through the forest with some spring in your step. The cool air is a wonderful relief from the sun. The vegetation, you notice, is quite lush in the forest. Beside evergreens, there are ferns, flowers, and hanging mosses. A thick mist is gathered under the higher branches of the forest, and vines hang down, creating the appearance of little ladders into the clouds. As you walk, you wonder what you might find here. This land is strange to you, and you know nothing of the people who live here. You were clearly warned about the dangers of this undertaking. However, the lure of treasure and discovery is too much. You keep an eye on the bushes though, just in case. After walking about a mile, you come to a nondescript fork in the forest path. There are no signs marking the different routes. Perhaps both paths end in the same destination. The left fork leads out into an area where the trees open up, and you can see rocky ground. The right fork continues deeper into the forest. You bite your lip, examine both paths, and make your decision. |
